World Jazz Jamboree 2017

Opening the 2017 World Jazz Jamboree was Italian saxophone ensemble the Tommaso Starace Quartet who explores the melodic and often cinematic approach to jazz music all performed against a backdrop of images by one of Italy’s most celebrated photographers, Gianni Berengo Gardin.

Next in the playlist was Monica Vasconcelos with her wonderful lyrical compositions of the Brazilian Bossa Nova backed by her original latin band.

Dan Somogyi was back once again with a mid afternoon gig with his Thokozile Collective - a highly talented South African jazz sextet featuring the reverberating rhythms and beats of the African continent.

The evening kicked off with acclaimed Cuban Violinist Omar Puente and his Sextet, who have a unique style of music influenced by elements of classical and traditional Cuban music to form the basis of an exciting new approach to Jazz.

As a finale to the 2017 Jazz by the Sea Festival we presented The Soothsayers, a hugely popular and captivating Afro Caribbean 7 piece performing original Afrobeat and reggae-influenced jazz grooves that are guaranteed to get the audience in party mood during the festival finale.
