THE JAZZ BY THE SEA FESTIVAL YOUNG MUSICIAN SHOWCASE 2017
Jazz by the Sea festival is proud to have yet again presented its annual young musicians showcase, giving the opportunity for local young musicians to perform in front of a panel of professional jazz musicians and local jazz fans.
Hosted by Bournemouth University on 17th March 2017, Jazz by the Sea’s showcase for young musicians featured big band performances from St Michael’s junior School of Colehill, QE senior school from Wimborne (pictured above) and a solo performance from 12 year old pianist Elena Bantock (pictured bottom right).
Judges on the night included Jazz by the Sea’s Festival Director Gerry Clarke, professional trombone player and band leader for the Bournemouth University Big Band, Steve Hayes and professional trumpet player and band leader for the Bournemouth Jazz Orchestra, Tony Waller.
The evening saw more than 200 people fill the Kimmeridge Theatre at Bournemouth University’s Talbot Road campus in Wallisdown, with children performing ranging from 8 years old to 17 years old.
Following the success of the young musicians showcase, The QE Big Band and Elena Bantock will now perform at Jazz by the Sea Festival in June, with the QE Big Band supporting BBC Radio 2 presenter Clare Teal at Poole Lighthouse on 11th June.
Jazz by the Sea Festival will take place across multiple venues in Poole and Bournemouth from 11-17th June 2017. Bringing world class jazz musicians to Dorset. Jazz by the Sea Festival will take place in live music venues, pubs, bars, restaurants, cafes, shopping centres and retail outlets for one week.
